Former England captain Michael Vaughan sparked a fresh round of banter on Monday as he took a cheeky dig at Wasim Jaffer following India’s dramatic batting collapse in the second Test against South Africa in Guwahati. With India tumbling to just 201 in response to South Africa’s massive 489, Vaughan couldn’t resist poking fun at his long-time social media rival.

India’s innings fell apart after a promising start, crashing from 94/1 to 122/7 in the second session. Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav stitched together a fighting 72-run stand for the eighth wicket, offering brief resistance. Sundar looked solid for his 48 off 92 deliveries, while Kuldeep battled for 19 off a marathon 134 balls before the innings wrapped up.

But the real destroyer was Marco Jansen. Vaughan’s tweet — “Hi @WasimJaffer14.. How’s today going? Left-arm seamers are not easy to face. 😜” — was a clear reference to the fiery South African left-arm pacer, who tore through India’s middle and lower order. Jansen finished with sensational figures of 6/48, removing key batters including Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Nitish Reddy, Dhruv Jurel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah.

Simon Harmer added pressure from the other end, claiming 3/64 as India folded inside 84 overs, handing South Africa a commanding 288-run first-innings lead.

However, Michael Vaughan’s dig didn’t land well with Indian fans, who quickly reminded him of England’s own struggles — particularly their two-day defeat in the Ashes opener on November 22 in Perth, where eight wickets beat them.
With India staring at a massive deficit and South Africa pushing for a rare series win on Indian soil, the Test has taken a dramatic turn both on and off the field.
