Rain halted Delhi’s first innings to 196/6 in 17.1 overs at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium. Playing at home, Delhi captain Shreyas Iyer lost the toss and was asked to bat first. Making the most of the opportunity Delhi lads lashed out in the Rajasthani bowling and gave a heavy punishment with only rain stopping the carnage.
Delhi Daredevils made one change to the team tonight as they brought in Shahbaz Nadeem in the place of Rahul Tewatia. Rajasthan decided to give one more chance to D’Arcy Short and dropped the spinner Ish Sodhi to accommodate him. Mahipal Lomror was left out to get back Shreyas Gopal.
The start from Rajasthan was brilliant as Dhawal Kulkarni removed Colin Munro on the first ball itself. Captain Shreyas Iyer joined young Prithvi Shaw at the crease. The 18-year old displayed his amazing timing and the prowess in stroke-making as he made his way to an explosive 47 runs from 25 balls to set the tone. The innings included four sixes and four boundaries.
After his departure, Shreyas Iyer took the control and added some quick runs. Rishabh Pant, who has been in an excellent form throughout the tournament, again smacked brilliant innings and hammered every bowler that came his way.
Shreyas Iyer was the first to get out and he was dismissed for 50 from 35 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes. Rishabh Pant also went back soon and he ended with an unbelievable 69 from 29 balls with 7 fours and 5 sixes. Jaidev Unadkat picked up 3/46 from his four overs.
As the rain again interrupted the play, Delhi’s innings was set at 196/6 from 17.1 overs. The match was already reduced to 18 overs per team since the play was delayed.
