Stand-in Indian skipper Rohit Sharma lights up Indore with the fastest T20 International hundred against Sri Lanka in the second T20I match. He equals David Miller’s record of 35-ball hundred, which was made in October against Bangladesh. With the help of this cyclone, India managed 260/5 on the board and left Sri Lanka to chase the highest score to win a T20I.
Putting into bat after losing the toss, Rohit and KL Rahul took India to a steady start before a barrack of sixes. Skipper Rohit went berserk after facing few dot balls in the first four overs. He unleashed himself very soon and punished every Sri Lankan bowler. He reached the landmark with help of 11 fours and 8 sixes. On the other end, Rahul went into his shell seeing his partner’s towering sixes.
Rohit’s lighting quick vigil ended at 118 after playing 43 balls, which includes 12 fours and 10 sixes. In the process, he became the first Indian to score two T20 International hundreds and registered highest individual score by an Indian in this format. He managed a 165-run opening stand with Karnataka lad.
Rahul took the reins from here on, managed a sparkling 89 but missed a well deserved hundred, curtsy a blinder from Niroshan Dickwella behind the stump. Coming into bat at three, Dhoni hit two fours and as many sixes for his 28.
India was heading towards the highest ever T20I score, but a late collapse prevented them to achieve so and ended up at 260, which is joint-second highest team total.
