Mumbai Indians batting first at the grand stadium of Eden Gardens, Kolkata managed to pile up 210/6 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders. The match is very crucial considering the points table of the IPL as a win for MI will propel them ahead of KKR whereas a win for KKR will put them as a clear runner for the fourth spot. Mumbai’s top three responded to the challenge and with help from others notched 210/6 runs.

Earlier in the night, Dinesh Karthik won the toss and chose to field first against Mumbai Indians. While the visiting team went unchanged Kolkata made two changes to their team. Injured Shubhman Gill was replaced by Rinku Singh and Tom Curran took the place of Mitchell Johnson.

The start as always was good enough for Mumbai Indians with the in-form Surya Kumar making sure of the early runs. Lewis was out in a haphazard manner as the back of his bat led to his demise. Lewis scored 18 and got Mumbai near 50 in the powerplay overs.

Surya Kumar Yadav crossed 400 runs in the IPL season and was eventually out to Piyush Chawla for 36. Rohit Sharma who had come out to bat tonight at number three was now joined by mercurial Ishan Kishan. Kishan was beaten on the first ball he faced but then he went on an absolute rampage.

Kuldeep Yadav was his biggest victim as Ishan hit Kuldeep for four sixes in the over. He smacked the next ball from Narine for another six and was out on the next ball attempting another one. Kishan ended with 62 runs from 21 balls with 5 fours and 6 humongous sixes.

Captain Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya tried their best to explode but it was Ben Cutting who finally did the trick. The Aussie managed to take 16 runs from the first three balls of the last over bowled by Piyush Chawla and took Mumbai past 200. Krunal Pandya ended the innings with a six and now KKR find a record-breaking chase awaiting them.
