Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Mumbai Indians piled up 167/7 in their 20 overs against the Rajasthan Royals team. Surya Kumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan did the bulk of the scoring and ensured Mumbai had adequate runs on the board. Archer bowled an inspiring over of three wickets while Dhawal made a good comeback too.
The night match played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur started off on a happy note as the upcoming young talent of Jofra Archer received the IPL cap. He was brought to the team in place of Ben Laughlin. RR also brought in Dhawal Kulkarni in place of Stuart Binny. Mumbai Indians went unchanged.
The opening pair of Evin Lewis and Surya Kumar Yadav had to see off the early difficult period. On the fifth ball of the first over, high-scorer of the first match, Evin Lewis was bowled by Dhawal Kulkarni and RR established an early advantage. Ishan Kishan then joined Surya at the crease.
The duo then soaked up the pressure and did not break apart. Slowly they gained the confidence and started punishing the Royals’ bowling. The 10th overs bowled by Shreyas Gopal went for 18 runs as Kishan and Surya tore into the bowling.
Dhawal Kulkarni returned and took the wicket of Ishan Kishan, he perished for 58 from 42 balls. The partnership of 129 runs between Kishan and Surya became the highest partnership of the season. Soon, Unadkat got better off Surya Yadav who got out for 72 runs from 47 balls. Rohit Sharma was runout two balls later. The innings dived off.
Debutant Jofra Archer then took three wickets in the penultimate over to crash Mumbai from 153/4 to 158/7. Mumbai has ended 15-20 runs short. Now onus on Rajasthan batting to chase the target.
