Mumbai Indians showed a remarkable comeback against Kings XI Punjab at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Batting first, the hosts were under pressure to perform as any loss now will rule them out of the playoffs race. Riding on contributions from Krunal Pandya and Kieron Pollard, Mumbai managed to put on 186/8 in the first innings despite Andrew Tye picking 4/16.

Earlier in the night, it was Ravi Ashwin who won the toss and elected to field first citing dew as one of the major factors here. KXIP made two changes to their team from the last match. They dropped the Bangalore duo of Nair and Agarwal and included Yuvraj and Manoj Tiwary. Mumbai brought in their favorite Kieron Pollard in place of JP Duminy.

After the quiet first two over, in-form Surya Kumar Yadav tore into the young fast bowler Ankit Rajpoot. In the third over, Surya clobbered him for two sixes and two fours and eventually collected 21 runs from the over. The momentum crashed when Tye picked up Lewis in the next over.

It was then the turn of Ishan Kishan. He attacked Mohit Sharma and smacked him for two sixes and a four in an over to total 18 runs. It was again Andrew Tye who brought KXIP back in the match as he took out Kishan and Yadav in two consecutive balls. Tye’s figures at this stage were 2-0-5-3.

Mumbai Indians then lost the wicket of their Captain cheaply. There was also a halt due to malfunctioning light towers which stopped play for some time. Once the light was on, all the attention was stolen by Pollard and Pandya.

Both the batsmen mounted an attack and perished in close distance of each other. Krunal scored 32(23) while Pollard scored 50(23). The innings of Mumbai fell flat at 152/6 with Ashwin and Tye choking them. The tail tried their best and took the score finally to 186/8. KXIP needs 187 runs to win.
