In a sterling bowling display at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Indians bowlers showed their class against Sunrisers Hyderabad to keep them down to only 118 runs batting first. Kane Williamson and Yusuf Pathan top-scored with 29 runs whereas almost all the Mumbai bowlers were into the wickets column.

Earlier in the night, two firsts were set as Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first. So far in the five matches, Mumbai Indians have batted first and Sunrisers Hyderabad has fielded first. Tonight the trend was reversed.

Sunrisers Hyderabad faced a major blow before the match began as Billy Stanlake was ruled out of the IPL 2018 with a finger injury. Luckily Dhawan was fit to play and replaced Ricky Bhui. Mohammad Nabi and Sandeep Sharma were brought in the place of Deepak Hooda and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Basil Thampi also received a call-up.

The start of SRH openers was brilliant. Williamson smacked a couple of boundaries in the opening over of Bumrah and the scored 20 in just 9 balls. McClenaghan then induced an inside edge of Dhawan which hit him on the shin. Next ball, he was bowled from another inside edge.

The kiwi bowler then snapped up Wriddhimaan Saha in the next two balls. Suddenly SRH were two down. Manish Pandey who was struggling so far stepped up and started with boundaries. From a start of 44/2 SRH then collapsed as they lost heaps of wickets.

Hardik Pandya

Manish Pandey got out to Hardik Pandya while Shakib Al Hasan was runout by a stunning direct throw from Surya Kumar Yadav. In the 9th Over, Hardik Pandya took the important wicket of Kane Williamson and SRH’s innings faced a major speed breaker.

Since Williamson’s wicket, Hyderabad could add only 55 runs thanks largely to Mohammad Nabi and Yusuf Pathan. Mayank Markande reclaimed his purple cap with a spell of 2/15. McClenaghan picked up 2/22 while Hardik Pandya ended up with 2/20.

MI needs 119 runs to win their second match of the season.
