Kolkata Knight Riders struggled heavily against the best bowling attack in the competition as they could only muster 138/9 runs batting first versus Sunrisers Hyderabad. The batting from Kolkata looked extremely patch at the Eden Gardens as they failed to get any partnerships going and kept hitting the ball regularly towards the fielders.

Tonight again Kane Williamson won the toss and chose to field first in the night game. SRH were boosted with the return of Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the team at the expense of Sandeep Sharma. KKR made changes in bulk. They brought in Mitchell Johnson, Shivam Mavi, and Shubhman Gill by leaving out Tom Curran, Rinku Singh and Vinay Kumar.

KKR began the batting with a traditional opening pair of Robin Uthappa and Chris Lynn. While Uthappa took some time t get going, Chris Lynn had made up his mind to attack from ball one. The ball was reluctant to hit the middle of his bat though as he edged majority of the balls he faced. Anyways Lynn got runs and that’s what goes on the scoreboard.

Uthappa got out in the third over, he was beaten by returning Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The edge was very faint and it took DRS to nip out Robin Uthappa. Nitish Rana came out to bat at number three. Rana did well before Manish Pandey caught him spectacularly at the point. Soon after, Rain stopped the game for good 40-50 minutes.

Sunil Narine was a failure tonight as he came out to bat at an uncharacteristic position after the rain break, he was out for 9(10). Dinesh Karthik scored 29 runs from 27 balls with few good shots. Rest batting failed and KKR could notch up only 138/8.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the pick of the bowlers with 3/26. Stanlake and Shakib both recorded 2/21. Manish Pandey starred with two spectacular catches. Chris Lynn top-scored with 49.

Can Sunrisers win their first match at the Eden Gardens or not remains to be seen.
