Batting first at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, SRH managed to score 146 in their 20 overs. Royal Challengers Bangalore bowled well for the better part of the innings and they were exceptional at the end. Pathan scored a brisk 12 from 6 balls to give some momentum to the sluggish inning but they ended up poorly. SRH have defended lower totals than this but their bowling will once again be tested.

Earlier in the night, Virat Kohli won the toss and much to everyone’s surprise asked SRH to bat first. SRH have been defending low totals throughout the season and handing them what they want was not very wise. RCB brought in Moeen Ali and Manan Vohra in place of Brendon McCullum and Murugan Ashwin while SRH went in with an unchanged XI.

The start from Royal Challengers Bangalore was excellent as they kept the SRH openers quiet. Alex Hales was first to go, he became a victim of Southee with the score being just 15. By the end of the powerplay, Shikhar Dhawan was back in the hut and SRH’s middle order now had to do the job.

Captain Kane Williamson and Shakib Al Hasan owned the responsibility and made sure that SRH posted a competitive score. Williamson played a splendid inning of 56 runs from just 39 balls with 5 fours and two sixes. he kept the momentum going and was the backbone of the batting effort.

Bangladesh all-rounder who had accumulated 35 runs in 32 balls returned just 8 balls after Williamson got out. The innings now tilted in the favor of RCB. Yusuf Pathan tried wrestling the momentum with his 12 from 6 balls but Siraj and Southee kept the runs down.

Last two overs belonged to RCB who gave away only 12 runs and picked five wickets, two of which were runouts from Kohli. SRH finally was all-out for 146 on the last ball of the innings. Southee picked up 3/25 while Siraj recorded the figures of 2/25.
