Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson has called on his players to remain calm and focused ahead of their much-anticipated Asia Cup 2025 clash against India on September 14 in Dubai. The encounter is set to be charged with emotion, especially as it comes just months after a tense border conflict in May, which adds another layer of intensity to the rivalry.

The Asia Cup kicked off on September 9, with Afghanistan hammering Hong Kong by 94 runs, while India dominantly began their campaign, cruising past the UAE with a nine-wicket win inside 4.3 overs. Pakistan are scheduled to open their tournament against Oman on Friday, but most of the spotlight is already on their battle with defending champions India just two days later.

Speaking to NDTV Sports, Mike Hesson stressed the importance of composure in big matches. “From my perspective, whether it’s a world event final or any high-pressure match, the focus must stay on the job at hand. It’ll be no different this weekend,” the Pakistan coach said.

Acknowledging India’s hot streak, Mike Hesson admitted his side must be at their best. “We know that India are playing with huge confidence and rightfully so, given how well they’ve performed,” he noted. Indeed, India’s record has been formidable — winning 18 of their last 21 T20Is since their World Cup triumph.

For Hesson, this upcoming clash is also a personal milestone. “I’ve watched many India-Pakistan games from afar. Now, being in the thick of such a charged contest is exciting. The atmosphere in Dubai will be electric, with a full house in the stadium and millions watching globally,” he said.

Pakistan head into the Asia Cup in good form, having recently clinched a tri-series in the UAE featuring Afghanistan and the hosts. Hesson, however, emphasised steady improvement: “We’re focused on getting better as a team day by day, without looking too far ahead.”
