Australia captain Mitchell Marsh is gearing up for the highly anticipated three-match ODI series against India with a mix of excitement and light-hearted apprehension, jokingly hoping that India’s legendary duo, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, don’t go too overboard with their performances. For fans, this series could be the last time they see the two Indian white-ball icons in action on Australian soil, adding extra significance to the contest.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference in Perth, Marsh reflected on his long career facing Kohli and Rohit, emphasising the rare opportunity the series presents for Australian fans.
“I’ve had the privilege of playing against them quite a lot over the years. They are legends of the game. Virat, especially in this white-ball format, is the greatest chaser ever. You can see why ticket sales are so high and why people are so eager to watch. If this is their last time in Australia, I hope they enjoy it — and I hope people get to witness two of the greats in action, hopefully without too much brilliance from them,” Mitchell Marsh said with a chuckle.

Cricket Australia reports that more than 1,75,000 tickets have already been sold across the three matches, reflecting the overwhelming interest in seeing Kohli and Rohit back in ODI action. Both stars have looked in delicate touch during training sessions at Optus Stadium, showcasing their energy, timing, and match readiness ahead of their comebacks.

Marsh, stepping in as captain in Pat Cummins’ absence due to injury, expressed his eagerness to see how the series unfolds. With Kohli and Rohit having retired from Tests and T20Is, they are now entirely focused on ODIs, with their eyes on the 2027 ODI World Cup. Each match in the near future becomes an occasion to celebrate the careers of these two stalwarts.
