All-rounder Mitchell Marsh’s availability for the second Test against India in Adelaide, set to begin on December 6, remains uncertain due to concerns over his bowling fitness. While Marsh has looked solid with the bat during practice sessions, he has not bowled any overs recently. To cover for this uncertainty, the team management has called up uncapped Tasmanian all-rounder Beau Webster as a backup.
Ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Australian captain Pat Cummins emphasized the importance of having quality all-rounders to share the workload of the pacers. However, with Cameron Green already ruled out of the series and Marsh’s fitness in question, Australia may have to play him solely as a batter in the coming Tests. This could disrupt the team balance, as it would require dropping one of the current batters, which might weaken the overall lineup.

“His batting has been fantastic since he’s come back, and his bowling has been effective too, so we’re hopeful he’ll be ready,” said wicketkeeper Alex Carey during a press conference, providing a positive update on Marsh’s status.
Australia is under pressure following their heavy 295-run defeat in the first Test in Perth. There have been doubts over the strength of their batting unit, with pacer Josh Hazlewood openly criticizing them after their poor performance. However, Carey stressed that the mood within the team remains calm, and they are confident in their ability to bounce back over the course of the five-match series.

“There’s a big external reaction after one loss, but internally, we’re calm,” Alex Carey said. “We didn’t play as we would have liked, but we know our method works. We’ve had success with it before, and we’re excited to get back out there and play better cricket.”
