Mitchell McClenaghan and Luke Ronchi complete ICC World XI Squad

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has declared the final two names which now completes the squad for the organized charity match.  Mitchell McClenaghan and Luke Ronchi have been named to play for the World XI team that will play against West Indies. The T20I match will be played at the Lord’s on 31st May.

The charity match will be played for the cause of development in Windies. Other big names playing consists Afghanistan’s superstar Rashid Khan along with Bangladesh’s duo of Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal. The team will be led by current English Captain Eoin Morgan.

Apart from the names announced before, ICC had already declared the names of Pakistan t20 freelance all-rounder Shoaib Malik and the legend Shahid Afridi. Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera will also be a part of the squad. The New Zealand duo of the fast bowler McClenaghan and the wicketkeeper Ronchi fulfill the vacancies.

The team of World XI will play against the T20I World Champions West Indies. Chris Gayle, Marlon Samuels, Carlos Brathwaite, Evin Lewis will be representing the Caribbean regions. Andre Russell will make his return to the national team for the first time after him completing the implied one-year ban.

Expressing his happiness, Ronchi said, “I’m looking forward to being a part of the World XI at Lord’s for the charity match against the Windies on the 31st of May, that will be raising funds to help with the rebuilding of cricket venues which were damaged by the two hurricanes in the Caribbean last year.”

“It is all for a worthy cause and it feels really good to see so many cricketers from different countries come together for such a reason. To be playing a match which will see some of the very best in action together is a matter of great pride for me. I’m looking forward to seeing a packed house at Lord’s, supporting the relief effort, and an exciting game of cricket.”

Enjoying the ‘absolute pleasure’ to be a part of the ‘fantastic cause’, McClenaghan said, “This will be a fantastic spectacle and I’m looking forward to participating with a great bunch of guys and look forward to doing those who will benefit from this match proud.”

The match is being organized to raise funds for the reconstruction of stadiums that were damaged in the Caribbean last year by Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Full World XI squad is as follows –
