Mitchell Starc Reflects On Friendship With Virat Kohli Ahead Of IPL Return

Mitchell Starc, the Australian pacer, is set to make a grand return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who secured him for a record-breaking ₹24.75 crores in the auctions. While Starc is eager to join KKR, he reminisced about his previous stint with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), where he played alongside and under the captaincy of Virat Kohli from 2013 to 2021.

In an interview with Star Sports, Mitchell Starc expressed his excitement about rejoining the IPL after last featuring in the 2015 season. He also shared insights into his time with Virat Kohli, highlighting the Indian captain’s dual persona on and off the field.

Mitchell Starc recalled, “I do remember fondly the couple of years that I had at RCB alongside Virat. He was the captain as well. That was the first time I got to know him properly, particularly off the field.”

Speaking about Virat Kohli, Mitchell Starc emphasized the stark difference in Kohli’s character, describing him as humble and warm off the field, while being fiercely competitive on it. Starc reflected on this aspect as the most memorable during his time with RCB.

“He is such a different person off the field. Such a humble and warm character off the field and then fiercely competitive on it. I remember that the most about him,” shared Mitchell Starc.

The Australian pacer had opted out of the IPL since the 2015 season, prioritizing red-ball cricket. Mitchell Starc played a crucial role in Australia’s Test success, finishing as the third-highest wicket-taker with 55 wickets in 17 matches during the World Test Championship 2021-2023.

Starc’s notable performances also include leading Australia’s bowling attack to secure the 2015 World Cup, where he finished as the highest wicket-taker with 22 wickets in eight games. He added another World Cup title in the 2023 edition, helping Australia triumph over India in the finals.
