Ahead of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Australian pacer Mitchell Starc shared a cricketing memory that continues to haunt him. In an intimate conversation with his wife, Alyssa Healy, Starc opened up about his near-miss in 2013 when he was dismissed for 99 against India in Mohali. Despite being so close to the elusive century, Starc has yet to notch up a Test century.

Although he was the top run-scorer for Australia in the first innings of that match, his 99 still stands out as a painful reminder. Australia posted a solid total of 408 runs, but India’s strong batting performance led them to a six-wicket victory. Alyssa Healy, who had been following the match closely, shared her experience of watching Starc’s innings unfold.

She recalled being out with friends when Mitchell Starc reached his half-century, and how she kept tracking his progress as he moved from the 60s to the 80s. When Starc approached 90, Healy decided to head home to catch the final moments of his innings live. However, just after she settled in to watch, Starc was dismissed by Ishant Sharma, caught behind by MS Dhoni.

During a segment on 7 Sports, Alyssa Healy asked Starc about the cricketing memory that haunted him the most, to which he immediately replied, “99.” He went on to explain that he had missed four balls in a row before nicking the fifth one to Dhoni. Healy empathized with his frustration, adding, “That cricket moment will haunt me forever too,” as she recalled the emotional rollercoaster of watching his innings slip away.
