Former Indian skipper, Mithali Raj Feels Poonam Yadav’s performance will give confidence to the Indian team in the tournament. The Indian women’s team had a fantastic start to their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 campaign. The match was filled with a lot of ups and downs.
It was a great start to the tournament not only because India beat the defending champions Australia on home soil, but also because of how the game progressed altogether. At no point could you say it was going in one side’s favor. India and Australia both took the game their own way at different points which made it fascinating for fans to watch.

Talking about the win, Raj said, “Poonam Yadav’s spell was the turning point. She’s been one of the main spinners for India for quite some time now, and her style worked again today. Although we recovered our innings through Deepti Sharma and her partnership with Jemimah Rodrigues, it was Poonam’s flurry of wickets against Australia’s megastars, which completely changed the game.”
Mithali felt Indian did well by dismissing the middle-order of Australia soon titled the match towards India. She also showered praises for Shafali Varma for providing some momentum to the Indian team.
Raj further explained, “Shafali Verma impressed me too on her debut. She gave India’s middle-order the cushioning they needed to regain momentum. Verma has stuck with stroke play that she demonstrated in the tri-series and I think she should be given that free-range in the first six overs because when you’re playing a top team, the runs in the first six overs are so important.”

India had outplayed the favorites Australia in the opening game of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Sydney. Defending only 132 runs on the board after losing the toss, the Indian bowlers stuck to their task. Poonam Yadav bowled a magical spell as she was all over the Australian players and was well supported by Shikha Pandey as the duo shared seven wickets together to help India bundle out for a meager total of 115 runs and get two crucial points.
