The outbreak of the Covid-19 virus has brought the world to a standstill with many countries being completely lockdown. Many major sporting events have either been postponed or canceled in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic affecting the globe. Covid-19 Virus has affected more than 786,270 people so far. It is also responsible for killing over 37,830 lives globally. The Coronavirus has affected more than 1200 people across India leading to 30 deaths. In such moments of crisis female cricketers Mithali Raj and Poonam Yadav and WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh have donated money to the local and central governments to help them fight the virus.
Indian female cricket team players Mithali Raj and Poonam Yadav contributed Rs 10 lakh and Rs 2 lakh respectively in a noble gesture to help the Indian government and the local state government. Indian women’s ODI team captain Mithali pledged Rs 5 lakh to the PM Cares Fund and the same amount to Telangana Chief Minister’s Fund.

Indian women team spinner Poonam Yadav pledged to donate Rs 2 lakh for the cause. She played an important role in helping the Harmanpreet Kaur led Indian team reach the finals of Women’s T20 World Cup 2020. Team India finished as runners up in that tournament.
“I have given my support to the PM-Cares fund and the UP CM relief fund. This is the only thing we can do in this time of crisis. I hope everyone contributes and we beat the pandemic soon. Stay safe everyone,” she tweeted.

WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh also pledged to donate Rs 11 lakh on behalf of the wrestling body. Brij Bhushan also announced that the Uttar Pradesh Wrestling Association will contribute Rs 5 lakh towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. He has praised star wrestler Bajrang Punia for his contribution towards the same.

Employees of Sports Authority of India have also joined in on the noble cause and donated their three days’ salary to the PM Cares Fund. The amounting of the 3 days salary of all the SAI employees adds up to a whooping to Rs 76 lakhs.
