Mithali Raj, the Test and ODI captain of Indian women’s cricket team, said that they are desperate to achieve success in T20 cricket and it is their main focus in this year. The sixth edition of ICC Women’s World Twenty20 will be played in West Indies during this November and Mithali Raj is looking forward to this tournament with her team.
In the recent chat with bcci.tv, Mithali said that they really want to do well in T20s. She said, “I definitely want the team to do well in this format because we’ve not really done very well in T20s, be it World Cups or bilateral series. So that’s something I’m looking forward to this year.”

Talking about the Women’s T20 World Cup preparation, Mithali said that they still need to do work in preparation. Mithali quoted, “Obviously, T20 World Cup is a different format from the one-day format, and the team definitely has lot to work on in T20s. We’ve been doing well in the last two games against South Africa. There’s still work to do in preparation of the World Cup, but the team looks good, with the kind of top-order batting we have.”
In their ongoing limited-over tour in South Africa, Indian women won the 3-match ODI series by the 1-2 margin and currently, they are leading the 5-match T20I series by the 1-2 margin after the fourth encounter.
Talking about the improvement in the squad, Mithali pointed out that the spinners need to improve their skills while the lower order batters need to contribute more. The right-handed batter said, “A lot of work is needed in terms of our spin. The wickets are batter-friendly and more conducive for high scoring [in South Africa], so the spinners have a lot more to work on. And the lower order needs to contribute with the bat because not in every game the bat rs will score runs.”
