The debate around the next generation’s Fab Four has gained momentum as the legendary quartet of Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Joe Root, and Kane Williamson gradually move towards the latter stages of their careers. Recently, former England all-rounder Moeen Ali and white-ball specialist Adil Rashid shared their picks for the future batting greats, with both unanimously including two Indian prodigies — Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The concept of the Fab Four was first introduced by the late New Zealand great Martin Crowe in 2014, highlighting four batters who were destined to dominate world cricket. Over the years, Kohli, Smith, Root, and Williamson lived up to the billing, rewriting records and carrying their teams on the biggest stages.
Now, cricket enthusiasts are keen to know who can emulate their consistency and impact in the coming decade. Moeen Ali, speaking on Beard Before Wicket, hailed Gill’s elegance and composure at the crease.

“Shubman Gill, just the way he bats and makes it look so easy. In this series in England, his technique has improved massively. He’s elegant, stylish, and in complete control — one of those players you just love to watch,” Moeen Ali said.
Alongside Gill, he backed Harry Brook (England) and Jaiswal, while rounding off his list with Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand. Moeen praised Ravindra’s adaptability and hunger, pointing to his performances in the 2023 ODI World Cup and his impressive tally of over 1,200 Test runs.

Adil Rashid, meanwhile, agreed on Gill, Jaiswal, and Brook, but named Jacob Bethell, a 21-year-old England all-rounder, as his fourth pick. Despite not yet scoring a professional hundred, Bethell’s natural talent and explosive ability have caught Rashid’s eye.
“In the next five or six years, he will be there,” Adil Rashid predicted, while acknowledging Bethell’s battle with frequent injuries. Moeen also acknowledged Bethell’s flair, adding that his batting power and technique make him a genuine prospect. “So three (Brook, Gill, and Jaiswal) are there, and I’m going with Ravindra and Bethell at five,” he concluded.
