Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has lavished praise on Indian pace sensation Jasprit Bumrah, terming him as the world’s best bowler. Amir, who was an integral part of Pakistan’s 2017 Champions Trophy victory, feels that Bumrah’s skill to perform in all three formats makes him better than everyone else.

“If you discuss fast bowling, Bumrah is a complete package. He can bowl with the new, old, and semi-new ball in Test cricket. In ODIs and T20Is, irrespective of the situation, he never fails. That’s why he is a complete package and should be a role model for budding fast bowlers. While other pacers might be weak in some formats, Bumrah is one of a kind in all three. That’s why he’s the best,” Mohammad Amir explained in an interview with India Today.

Bumrah was in outstanding form last year, leading India’s bowling attack across formats. He played 13 Test matches, picking up an impressive 71 wickets. In the T20 World Cup, he scalped 15 wickets in just eight matches. His stellar performances earned him the ICC Cricketer of the Year and ICC Test Cricketer of the Year awards in 2024.

But Bumrah injured his lower back during the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia in January 2025, and he was unavailable for the Champions Trophy. He had initially been included in India’s provisional team, but then he was replaced by Harshit Rana on February 11.

With Bumrah not available, seasoned pacer Mohammed Shami has led India’s bowling lineup in the Champions Trophy 2025. The 34-year-old made a huge impact on the very first day, taking 5/53 in India’s first match against Bangladesh in Dubai on February 20. But in the much-hyped Group A encounter against Pakistan, Shami remained wicketless, showing the absence of India’s top fast bowler.
