Former international cricketer Mohammad Asif has made a bold and unsettling prediction for the future of the Pakistan Cricket Team, especially concerning their performance in the next T20 World Cup. Asif’s comments come at a time when Pakistan cricket is under intense scrutiny, plagued by internal issues and instability both on and off the field.
From constant changes within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to reported locker-room tensions, the once-glorious cricketing nation is struggling to maintain the high standards that fans have come to expect. During his appearance on the YouTube podcast ‘The Nakash Khan Show,’ Asif made a prediction that might dishearten Pakistani fans.
He believes that the USA cricket team, who shocked the cricketing world by defeating Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup, will once again emerge victorious against Pakistan in the 2026 edition. Asif’s prediction is a stark reminder of Pakistan’s recent struggles and the uncertainty surrounding the team’s future.

“We lost to the USA, who were playing in the T20 World Cup for the first time. They didn’t even qualify; they played because they were the hosts. Given the current situation, I guarantee you that the USA will beat Pakistan in the next World Cup, in 2026,” Mohammad Asif confidently stated.
The USA made their T20 World Cup debut in 2024, co-hosting the tournament with the West Indies. Their journey was nothing short of remarkable, reaching the Super-Eight stages in their first appearance. However, it was their dramatic win over Pakistan at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas that made headlines.
The match ended in a Super Over, with the USA clinching victory by five runs, a result that not only stunned the cricketing world but also led to Pakistan’s early exit from the tournament. Reflecting on the current state of Pakistan cricket, Asif emphasized the need for significant changes. He believes that without a strategic overhaul, the team will continue to falter.
“Before the 2026 World Cup, we need to change the captain, coach, and players. There must be a clear plan for the next two years with a fixed group of 20 players. But we keep repeating the same mistakes, which is why I’m making this prediction,” Mohammad Asif remarked.

He further noted that while teams like India and South Africa are progressing, Pakistan remains stagnant, stuck in a cycle of repeated failures. Recently, Pakistan suffered another disappointing defeat, this time against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi, further intensifying the spotlight on the team’s issues. Whether the PCB will take the necessary steps to rejuvenate the nation’s cricketing spirit remains to be seen.
