Pakistan all-rounder and former T20I captain Mohammad Hafeez comes out to support the ‘doosra’ delivery and said the ICC (International Cricket Council) should do something to save the delivery. Off-spinner Hafeez is currently suspended from bowling in international cricket by the ICC.
Hafeez is feeling happy after seeing the leg spinners are doing well in the international cricket. Besides that, he also spoke out about the ‘doosra’ delivery.

During a PSL (Pakistan Super League) match, Hafeez said on the sidelines, “Really happy to see leg spinners come into international cricket. But I still believe something should happen when it comes to the doosra.”
Adding the example of Saeed Ajmal and Saqlain Mushtaq, Hafeez extended, “Saeed Ajmal has given us a lot of excitement as well as Saqlain Mushtaq. It is one area ICC must look into. Some extension in the rules… doosra should be a part of cricket, not taken away from it.”

Talking about the leg-spinners, Hafeez said that they provide lots of excitement in the game. The 37-years old experience all-rounder said, “This is one area that every team looks forward to. Having leg spinners in the team provides them with lots of excitement and options to get wickets. Leg-spinners are always fascinating when it comes to cricket, starting from Abdul Qadir when he used to bowl his googlys it was a new thing in cricket and everyone just loved that. Then the legacy continued led by Anil Kumble from India, Shane Warne from Australia, Mushtaq Ahmad from Pakistan.”
Since their ICC Champions Trophy victory in 2017, Pakistan was totally inconsistent in international cricket. While they had suffered a Test series whitewash against the Sri Lankan team in UAE, they had whitewashed Sri Lanka in the limited-overs home series (only one T20I in Pakistan and all other matches in UAE) in return.
Meanwhile, they suffered another whitewash in the ODI series against the hosts New Zealand while they replied with a T20I series (by the 1-2 margin) victory on the same New Zealand tour.
Talking about their recent inconsistent performances, Hafeez pointed out the injury problems as he quoted, “We missed some of our bowlers due to injuries like Usman Khan Shinwari. He is a rising star and he did very well for us against Sri Lanka in UAE.”
Hafeez believes that Pakistan has a good bunch of players and just need a momentum. He hopefully said, “We have a good bunch of players, bowlers in the team. Seamers are there – Amir, Hasan Ali, Faheem is shaping very well who is an all-rounder. So we have the spark in the bowling, we just need a momentum to go into the 2019 World Cup playing abroad. Winning abroad will give us a lot of confidence.
“We are leading into a very good team, we are shaping up very well. Everyone is very clear about their role. We know we have to get momentum outside Asia. That is a goal we really want to achieve.”
