The veteran Indian all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja made his ODI debut for India, way back in 2009. Since then there has been no looking back for him he emerged as India’s most prominent all-rounders, who can chip in for the team with his contribution in all aspects of the game. But it is his contribution, particularly in India’s international matches, that has suddenly made everyone take notice once again of the role that he has been playing for the team.

Former India batsman Mohammad Kaif on Friday said that Jadeja is ‘grossly underrated’ in the last decade or so. He explained, “For two successive games Ravindra Jadeja showed why he is of so much value to India in white-ball cricket as he provides much-needed balance. Even after 11 years he continues to be grossly underrated and deserves a lot more respect than he gets. Feel India will miss him dearly.”

On Friday, Jadeja, who played an unbeaten knock of 23-ball 44 to steer India to help India register a score of 161 in the first T20I against Australia, was hit on the helmet by a Mitchell Starc delivery in the last over of the visitor’s innings.

Jadeja eventually did not come out for the second innings of the match and Yuzvendra Chahal became his concussion substitute for the innings. But Team India late on Friday night ruled Jadeja out of the remaining 2 T20Is and said that further scans could be done to check the nature of his injury if required.

In the last two limited-overs matches that India has played, Jadeja has been the hero of sorts, coming in at No. 7 and getting the team to a par score after a collapse up the order. On Friday, he single-handedly got India to reach a score of 161 after they were 114/6 after Hardik Pandya’s dismissal in the 17th over.
