Former India cricketer Mohammed Kaif has strongly criticised Mohammad Amir for repeatedly making controversial remarks about the India national cricket team during the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Kaif accused the former Pakistan pacer of deliberately making provocative comments about India just to remain in the headlines. Amir had earlier stirred debate by labelling young Indian batter Abhishek Sharma as “nothing but a slogger” and even predicted that India would fail to reach the semi-finals of the tournament.

However, India’s impressive campaign proved otherwise, prompting Kaif to respond sharply to Amir’s remarks a day before the high-stakes clash against the England team. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Kaif suggested that Amir’s comments were less about cricket analysis and more about gaining attention. According to Kaif, players and fans should avoid giving importance to such statements.

“Did Amir really not know that India would reach the semifinals? Of course, he knew that the defending champions would make it,” Mohammad Kaif said. “But people say these things because it becomes news. We must not give them importance. There is no need for us to come down to their level and reply.”

Kaif also questioned Amir’s credibility by recalling a painful moment for Pakistan during the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. In that game, Pakistan suffered a shocking defeat against the United States national cricket team in a Super Over, where Amir struggled to control his line and length.

“The loss they faced against the USA in 2024 — it was the same bowler who was responsible,” Mohamamd Kaif said. “In that over, he conceded only one boundary but bowled too many wides. His balls did not even land on the stumps. Who got scared against that USA team and made his side lose the game? I don’t have to say more.”

The former India batter also broadened his criticism to Pakistan’s overall cricketing structure. Kaif argued that Pakistan cricket currently lacks stability, leadership, and consistency compared to India’s system.

“Why are we focusing on him?” Mohammad Kaif said. “The country is so far behind in the sport — they have no players, no solid captain, no solid bowler. We don’t have to respond to everything they say.”

Pakistan’s campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 ended in disappointment after the team failed to progress beyond the Super 8 stage, marking the second consecutive edition in which they missed out on a semi-final berth.
