Mohammad Kaif to lead India Maharajas as Virender Sehwag to miss first two games

Former India opener and the captain of India Maharajas, Virender Sehwag will miss the first two matches of the inaugural Legends League Cricket. The tournament is scheduled to begin tonight in Oman with a battle between India Maharajas and Asia Lions as well. However, India Maharajas have named Mohammad Kaif as their captain for the first two games.

Kaif is a former Indian cricket team player who made headlines with his middle-order performances and stunning fielding ability. Meanwhile, he was a part of the India Legends team that won the Road Safety World Series tournament last year in Raipur as well.

Notably, in 2008, he was a part of the Rajasthan Royals team that won the IPL trophy as well. While speaking to the media before the first match of Legends League Cricket 2022, Mohammad Kaif revealed Virender Sehwag’s unavailability.

Here’s what he had said: “Sehwag has some personal issues so could not come for the opening match. He may join later, I will lead the Indian side in the first two matches.”

Meanwhile, Mohammad Kaif has added that he had led the team in domestic cricket before and also had the experience of working as a team mentor as well. So he has been looking forward to leading the India Maharajas team.

On the other hand, former India batsman Wasim Jaffer has been added to the Indian squad for the Legends League Cricket 2022 as well. Notably, he was the first Indian opener to score a Test hundred on South African soil as well.
