The Indian batsmen continued their first innings in the same fashion as yesterday. Yes, they lost wickets at regular intervals, but that did not stop the incoming batsmen from playing freely. India lost Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Wriddhiman Saha and Ravichandran Ashwin in the session before lunch today.

Ashwin, in particular, was not affected by the wickets falling on the other end. He was promoted to No. 6 in the batting order and ended up scoring 47 (60) with the help of seven fours and at a strike rate of 78.33. Not for a moment, did he look uncomfortable on the crease and was free-flowing with his strokes.

The Indian batsmen batted with full domination, so much so that even their No. 10 batsman, Mohammed Shami, took on the opposition bowlers. He came in to bat in the 122nd over after the departure of Ravindra Jadeja. In the 125th over, he hit a monumental stroke down the ground off Rangana Herath. Shami scored 30 (30) with the help of three gigantic sixes.
