India’s veteran pacer Mohammed Shami has finally broken his silence after being left out of India’s white-ball tour of Australia and the Test series against the West Indies. Despite his proven experience and match-winning spells, Shami’s exclusion raised several eyebrows among fans and cricket pundits alike. The decision by the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee not to include him in any format sparked speculation about his fitness and form.

Speaking candidly on his YouTube channel, Mohammed Shami addressed the swirling rumours, making it clear that team selection is beyond his control. “There have been many rumours and memes. Getting selected in the team is not in my hands — it’s the job of the selectors, coach, and captain. If they feel I should be there, they’ll pick me. If not, that’s their decision. I am always ready to play whenever called up,” said Shami.

The experienced fast bowler, who last represented India during the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, dismissed all doubts about his fitness. He revealed that he is bowling at full rhythm and feels physically and mentally prepared for a comeback.

“My fitness is good. I’ve been working hard to stay motivated while being away from the team. I played in the Duleep Trophy recently, bowled around 35 overs, and felt comfortable with my rhythm. There are no issues with my fitness,” he added.

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar had earlier mentioned that Shami’s absence was due to limited participation in domestic matches — a reason the pacer appears determined to address. The 34-year-old will now turn out for Bengal in the upcoming Ranji Trophy, leading a strong pace unit featuring Akash Deep and Ishan Porel.

For now, Shami seems focused on letting his performances do the talking as he eyes a strong return to international cricket — on his own terms and with his trademark determination.
