The premier Indian pacer, Mohammed Shami said that he enjoyed bowling with his fellow pacer, Mohammed Siraj in the opening match of the three-match ODI series against Australia on Friday, March 17 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Siraj and Shami have been shouldering India’s bowling responsibilities for quite some time in the absence of the fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, who is recovering from a back injury.

Even as Shami admitted that India has been missing Bumrah to a large extent, he also talked about having fun while bowling with Siraj.

During the post-match press conference, Mohammed Shami said, “It has been a long time since Bumrah has not been playing. It is our hard luck that he is not there. But we have a very good overall bowling unit for both white and red balls. We support each other a great deal.”

He further added, “Siraj has been playing for a while, he has the confidence. It is important to see how well the other bowler is doing when bowling in partnerships. We try to bowl as tight as possible, keeping the ball in specific patches. As a senior bowler you have to lead the way.”

Both Shami and Siraj picked up three wickets apiece against the Aussies, helping the host to bundle out their opponents for 188 in 35.4 overs. Shami also said that he isn’t very worried about the World Test Championship (WTC) final and the 50-over World Cup to be played later this year.

Elaborating the same, Mohammed Shami said, “There is a lot of time left for the WTC final and World Cup. As a player, you cannot think that far ahead. You never know what will happen tomorrow. But you have to be smart as far as the workload is concerned, you have to work on your strengths. You know your workload as per international cricket. It is better to take it series by series or match by match.”

The Indian team won the first ODI by five wickets and took a crucial 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The second game of the series will take place on Sunday, March 19 at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
