While the ongoing five-match long Test series between the hosts England and the visitors India are currently in the interesting line, Indian pacer Mohammed Shami feels that the Indian pacers can dominate in the upcoming fourth Test at Southampton, starting from this Thursday (August 30).

After losing the first two Tests of this series, Indian pacers led the visiting side to clinch a crucial victory in the third Test at Trent Bridge (Nottingham) and that too in dominated method.

Prior to the fourth Test, the confident Indian pacer Shami believes the present Indian pace attack is ahead from the other teams’ pace attacks.

He said on that, “Our country has got such a bowling attack after a long time and if you compare one on one (with England or any other opponent), we have better bowlers.”

While India has been known as a good batting team for a long time, Shami has claimed that the culture has now shifted in the nation’s cricket to build up the good pace attacks.

The 28-year-old pacer said, “Now the culture is different that you cannot look at batting alone. We have such good skilled pace bowlers that they are idols for young kids and junior cricketers. India’s best pace attack is in front of you and performing and helping the team win. We have formed a pace unit that people are now talking about us and for us.”

Shami believes the Indian cricket team has enough pace strength that can be used in various conditions and situations.

The right-arm pacer told, “(With) the pace attack we have, we can bowl any delivery. You take Bumrah, Ishant, Umesh… whoever the bowler may be, we can do that (attack and contain). So it is good for us that we have so many options and we can evaluate which bowler is feeling better (confident) and we can pick options that this bowler should open the bowling or another bowler should do it. It depends on the fast bowling unit who wants to start.”

Talking more about the pace bowling, Shami explained that the length and plans are depending on the conditions. He said that the main task for the pacers is to assess the wicket and execute the plan as soon as possible.

Shami said on that, “(We choose the length and plans) depending on the conditions, how much the ball is carrying and how much bounce you can get. Where can we beat the batsmen, in how many areas can we get them to play? As a fast bowler, you need to read a wicket quickly, assess what your length and your line should be. That is our main task — how quickly you assess that and how quickly you get down to work.”

While the fourth Test is going to begin at Southampton soon, the Indian right-arm pacer is confident to get a good Test wicket that provides a result.

Shami said on his expectation about the pitch, “I can definitely say that there will be a result on this wicket, and a good result”
