Mohammed Shami, one of India’s most experienced pace bowlers, has been traded to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) ahead of the IPL 2026 auction. The 35-year-old fast bowler from Amroha, known for his exceptional seam and swing skills, made the switch in an all-cash deal, retaining his price tag of ₹10 crore. This move comes after Shami’s underwhelming IPL 2025 season with SRH, where he picked up just six wickets in nine matches despite being one of the highest buys at the mega auction.

Shami, who last appeared for India in the ICC Champions Trophy final earlier this year, has an IPL career spanning 119 matches across five franchises, taking 133 wickets.
In its announcement, the IPL noted: “Veteran fast bowler Mohd Shami will turn out for the Lucknow Super Giants after a successful trade from Sunrisers Hyderabad. Shami, the second-most expensive acquisition for SRH ahead of IPL 2025, joins LSG at his existing fee.”

Before his stint with SRH, Shami was a key member of the Gujarat Titans setup. His remarkable 2023 season saw him clinching the Purple Cap with 28 wickets, leading GT to a strong finish. Although injuries sidelined him in 2024, he made a robust comeback in 2025, only to face inconsistencies in form.

Shami’s IPL journey began in 2013 with Kolkata Knight Riders, followed by stints with Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings. His time at Punjab Kings, particularly between 2019 and 2021, saw him emerge as one of the side’s primary strike bowlers. His tenure with the Gujarat Titans further solidified his reputation, especially with his standout performances in 2022 and 2023.

The move to LSG offers Shami a fresh start. With the franchise looking to strengthen its bowling attack, his experience and skill set could play a pivotal role. However, questions remain about how well he can rediscover his rhythm after a challenging 2025 season and injuries in recent years. All eyes will now be on Shami as he prepares to don the LSG jersey and aim for another impactful chapter in the IPL.
