The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League has come to an end on Sunday where Gujarat Titans won the competition in their debut season by beating Rajasthan Royals. They had a stellar season with 10 wins and 4 defeats in 14 league stage games. While they were not considered as one of the strong teams earlier, they were the first team to qualify for the playoffs as well and eventually qualify for the final too. Meanwhile, their fast bowler Mohammed Shami has made a new record in the history of the Indian Premier League. He didn’t have to bat at all this season as well.
With this, he became the first cricketer to play all the games of an IPL season without coming to bat. However, Shami has played 16 games and has taken 20 wickets to his name as well. Notably, their win came on the back of Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya and David Miller. They all have great campaigns in IPL 2022 as well. However, Hardik Pandya ended up as the fourth-highest run-scorer this season as he scored 487 runs in 15 games as well. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill has scored 483 runs in 16 games whereas veteran South African batter David Miller scored 481 runs in 16 games as well.
David Miller said after the win: “It’s been a phenomenal journey, finishing it at the back end was a special feeling, but it has been a collective effort, everyone has stuck up their hand and performed well. (On Pandya) He’s been very relaxed, we’ve had a very good bond with Ashish (Nehra) and Hardik. He’s got better and better as the competition gone on, tactically he’s been brilliant. Just grown from strength to strength.”
Mohammed Shami shared: “We needed to start the tournament well (on the first ball dismissal of KL in the team’s first game), set up a template for the team. The idea was only to start well for the team, concentrate on the line and length. We (himself and Saha) have known each other well for the last 20 years and have a good understanding as well.”
