The opening Test of the 5-match series between England and India certainly lived up to everyone’s expectations. Indian fans are quite happy with the way the visitors have approached the innings with calmness and composure. England Test captain Joe Root won the toss and elected to bat first at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Jasprit Bumrah drew the first blood for India as he dismissed Rory Burns in the very first over and Bumrah got part to support from Mohammed Shami.
Following Burns’ departure, Dominic Sibley and Zak Crawley added 42 runs for the second wicket. Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj got the wicket of Crawley with a superb ball. England found some support in the form of Dominic Sibley and Joe Root. Both added 24 runs for the third wicket. However, then Mohammed Shami managed to break the partnership by dismissing Sibley with very good delivery just after the lunch break.

Jonny Bairstow managed to stick to the game’s flow as he started a decent partnership with skipper, Joe Root. The duo tackled India’s pace bowling attack and added a vital 52-run partnership. But their liaison failed to continue for long. Mohammed Shami struck to his subtle bowling variation combined with a disciplined good line and length. With this variation, he went on to dismiss dangerous Bairstow for 29 (71).
Bairstow smashed four boundaries during his stay at the crease. It was a big relief for Shami, in particular. When Test skipper Joe Root nudged the ball towards the deep region. After that, he called for “a couple” but it was a miscalculation from the skipper and there was a run out on the table.
