Shami made his much-awaited comeback for Bengal in a Ranji Trophy fixture against Madhya Pradesh at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore. The 33-year-old showcased his class, taking 4/54 in 19 overs, helping Bengal restrict Madhya Pradesh to just 167 in their first innings. His impressive performance has cemented his readiness for the gruelling Test series Down Under.

“He will be joining the Indian team after the Adelaide Test. Now that he is back, has proven his fitness, and picked up wickets, he will be crucial for the team in the second half of the tour,” Mohammed Badruddin said in a conversation with The Indian Express.
