Mohammed Shami Thanks Fans For Support After His Comeback

The veteran Indian pacer, Mohammed Shami credited hard work after his heroics for India in the first warm-up of the T20 World Cup against Australia. Shami scalped three wickets in four balls to help India register a six-run win in the final-over drama. Defending 11 runs in the last over on Monday, captain Rohit Sharma surprised everyone by bringing Shami, who was named number 13 for the match. On the third ball of the over, Pat Cummins played a shot over long-on but Virat Kohli took a stunning one-handed catch.

Mohammed Shami, who had not played a T20I since the 2021 T20 World Cup in November and was added to India’s 2022 campaign after Japrit Bumrah was ruled out, continued to cause trouble for Australia as he took three wickets in four balls.

KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav scored half-centuries which helped India to reach a target of 186/7 after being put into bat. India’s big guns like Rohit and Kohli struggled in the middle as Kane Richardson returned with four wickets.

During the chase, Australia got off to a flying start with captain Aaron Finch and Mitchell Marsh hammering the Indian bowlers. India rattled the middle order of the world champions to make a comeback. Finch (79), anchoring the innings, failed to take Australia home as Harshal Patel dismissed him when the hosts needed 16 runs off the final two overs.

After the match, talking about Mohammed Shami, Rohit Shami said, “He is coming back after a long time, so we wanted to give him an over. Wanted to give him a challenge and let him bowl the final over, and you saw what he did.”
