The match began with Pakistan opting to field first, a decision that paid off as their bowlers managed to bowl out India for a mere 119 runs despite several rain delays. To give India a fighting chance, captain Rohit Sharma entrusted the new ball to Mohammed Siraj alongside Arshdeep Singh. Siraj quickly found himself in the spotlight.

In the first over, Siraj conceded just one run in the first five balls. On the sixth delivery, he bowled a fuller ball at the stumps, which Rizwan played back to him before taking a couple of steps down the pitch for a potential run.

Mohammed Siraj fielded the ball and aimed a throw towards the stumps, attempting a run-out. However, the throw was off-target and struck Rizwan on the tricep, causing him considerable pain.
