The Indian fast bowler, Mohammed Siraj has earned a name for himself in international cricket, especially after his exploits in the Border Gavaskar Trophy trophy against Australia. He ended up as India’s leading wicket-taker despite not playing the first Test. He made his debut in the second Test against Australia and went on to take 13 wickets in the series. He drew praises from every nook and as a result, he is in the playing XI of the ongoing Nottingham Test against England.

The Indian team is currently in the UK for the five-match Test series. The first Test is taking place at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. England Test skipper, Joe Root won the toss and elected to bat first at home. Jasprit Bumrah drew the first bird for India by dismissing England’s opener Rory Burns in the very first over.

Mohammed Siraj took the second wicket for India as he was managing to extract swing on this particular wicket. Moreover, he is making a strong case for a permanent spot in overseas conditions. During the last ball of the 21st over, Siraj stunned Zak Crawley with a peach of a delivery.

Crawley got a clear inside edge that carried through to Rishabh Pant as the batsman was a tad late to react to the delivery and ended up gifting his wicket to the opposition.

Initially, the on-field umpire hesitated to raise his finger, but Pant convinced the Indian captain Virat Kohli to take the DRS. The third umpire asked the on-field umpire to overturn his decision. Crawley departed after scoring 27. England managed to score 61/2 (25 overs) just before the lunch session.

Earlier, in the some, Over, Siraj beat the edge of Crawley and all the Indian fielders going up in unison. Specifically, Kohli was confident that the ball took the inside edge before being taken by Pant. However, to cut India’s excitement short, the third umpire had deemed it not-out. Three deliveries later, Siraj bowled an identical delivery (on which he got the wicket) with the entire slip cordon yet again going up in unison.

While Kohli wasn’t confident about taking the DRS, Pant had forced the Indian skipper to go upstairs, in a decision that would result in a wicket for India and it did. Having replaced MS Dhoni with the bat and in the field, Pant’s latest venture, with the DRS certainly resembled the former Indian skipper in Nottingham.
