On Friday, the BCCI confirmed that the Indian pacer, Mohammed Siraj has replaced the premier seamer, Jasprit Bumrah in the squad for the ongoing three-match T20I series against South Africa. Bumrah was ruled out due to a back stress fracture, which ultimately meant that he will now be expecting to miss the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022.
A report in PTI also suggests that India’s premier pacer Bumrah will eventually be ruled out of the T20 World Cup as well. This now brings pacer Mohammed Shami into the equation for the mega cricketing event. Tweeting about the same, BCCI tweeted, “Mohd. Siraj replaces injured Jasprit Bumrah in T20I squad. #TeamIndia | #INDvSA”.

Jasprit Bumrah’s ouster from the T20 World Cup 2022 comes as a huge setback for the Indian team. The marquee event is scheduled to commence on October 16 with 16 countries participating. Bumrah, who has played 60 T20ls, has been ruled out due to a back stress fracture.

Bumrah’s missing the marquee event means either of the two fast bowlers on standby: Mohammad Shami and Deepak Chahar will get a chance to play in the ICC T20 World Cup that begins on October 16 at the Geelong Cricket Ground in Victoria, Australia. Bumrah was earlier ruled out of the Asia Cup due to a back injury.
Sources of the Hindu in the BCCI have confirmed that the fast bowler’s health was being monitored by the BCCI medical team. The report also added, “But given his recurring back injury, the decision makers are unwilling to take chances with the fitness of one of their key players during a World Cup.”
