Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj recently shared a pivotal moment in his cricketing journey, highlighting a heart-to-heart conversation with Jasprit Bumrah that reignited his form and confidence when the team needed him most. After struggling during series against Bangladesh and New Zealand, Siraj found himself grappling with poor performances and self-doubt. Dropped from the playing XI, he sought guidance from Bumrah, the world’s No. 1 Test bowler.
Bumrah’s advice was simple yet profound: focus on consistency and enjoy the process rather than obsessing over wickets. “I always keep talking to Jassi bhai (Bumrah). Before the first match, I shared my struggles with him. He told me, ‘Don’t run after wickets. Just keep bowling in one area consistently and enjoy your bowling. If you don’t get wickets, then you can come and ask me.’ I followed his advice, enjoyed my bowling, and wickets came,” Mohamed Siraj revealed in an interview with ICC.
The guidance proved transformative. In the opening Test against Australia at the WACA Ground in Perth, Siraj delivered a match-defining five-wicket haul, his first since his sensational seven-for against South Africa in early 2024. This performance marked a critical comeback, helping India take a commanding position in the series as they pursued a spot in the World Test Championship Final at Lord’s.

“Australia is a paradise for fast bowlers. The pace and bounce here give you everything you need to succeed, boosting confidence and allowing you to enjoy your bowling,” Mohamed Siraj said.
As India now gears up for their pink-ball Test in Adelaide, Siraj is keen to adapt to the unique challenges it presents. Reflecting on his warm-up game performance against the Prime Minister’s XI, where he dismissed Matt Renshaw, Siraj emphasized the importance of bowling a back-of-length with the pink ball.
“I’ve heard the ball swings more under lights, but I haven’t experienced it yet. We’ll practice in Adelaide to understand its behavior better and prepare accordingly,” Mohamed Siraj stated.
