The day commenced with cautious innings from South African openers Aiden Markram and Dean Elgar, who managed five runs off the first three overs. Siraj initiated the breakthrough by dismissing Markram, caught at third slip by Yashasvi Jaiswal. He followed it up with a crucial wicket, claiming the scalp of last gameโs centurion, Elgar, who edged the ball back onto his stumps.

Jasprit Bumrah complemented Siraj’s brilliance, contributing to the team’s success. Bumrah dismissed debutant Tristan Stubbs, caught by Rohit Sharma at short leg, while Mohammed Siraj accounted for Tony de Zorzi, who fell victim down the leg side, leaving South Africa at a precarious 15/4.
Siraj continued his dominance, dismissing David Bedingham (12), Marco Jansen (0), and Kyle Verreyne (15), culminating in his best Test figures of 6/15 in nine overs. This remarkable feat marked Siraj’s third fifer in his Test career.

Bumrah added to the Proteas’ misery by claiming Nandre Burger, finishing with figures of 2/25 in eight overs. Mukesh Kumar contributed to the bowling spectacle by dismissing Keshav Maharaj and Kagiso Rabada, achieving his best Test figures of 2/0. The Proteas were eventually bundled out for a paltry 55 runs in 23.2 overs, leading India into lunch with a dominant position.
