The Indian pacer, Mohammed Siraj pulled off a spectacular one-handed catch that left the crowd in awe on Day 4 of the second Test against Bangladesh at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. After two days of rain had washed out play, the fans were treated to a moment of brilliance first from skipper, Rohit Sharma then from Siraj, who, standing at mid-off, timed his jump to perfection while running backwards.

Shakib Al Hasan came down the ground trying to replicate the boundary he smashed on the previous delivery but lost one hand off his bar and lost control of the shot. Mohammed Siraj was in the circle at mid-off, and the ball went pretty high into the sky. As the sun was burning down, Siraj, wearing shades, kept his eyes on the ball while running backwards and hopped back to grab it with his left hand.

Shakib Al Hasan, who was on 9, missed his shot as he was looking to score big, but Mohammed Siraj’s athleticism turned the tide. Shakib cursed himself for the shot, watching helplessly as his mis-hit drive failed to clear Siraj. As soon as the catch was made, Siraj celebrated in style, raising his hand and running with a beaming smile, delighting his teammates and fans alike.

This was the sixth Bangladesh wicket to fall at 170, following Jasprit Bumrah’s earlier dismissal of Mushfiqur Rahim on the same morning and Mohammed Siraj dismissed Liton Das owing to another brilliant catch from Rohit Sharma. Bumrah had made the first breakthrough for India, sending Rahim back to the pavilion with a delivery that deceived the batter, knocking over his stumps. Rohit’s catch continued India’s dominance in the weather-hit Test match.

Meanwhile, Mominul Haque managed to complete his half-century as Bangladesh attempted to recover. However, India remains in the driver’s seat, having already secured a 1-0 lead in the two-match series after their commanding 280-run victory in Chennai. With the conditions improving, India’s bowlers look set to push for another win, capitalizing on Bangladesh’s middle-order struggles.
