Gujarat Titans pulled off a crucial breakthrough at the death, thanks to a brilliant piece of fielding from Mohammed Siraj, who produced a stunning catch to dismiss the dangerous Shimron Hetmyer during their IPL 2026 clash against Rajasthan Royals in Ahmedabad. With Rajasthan building momentum and eyeing a strong finish, Hetmyer walked in with a clear intent to accelerate.

The left-hander wasted no time, smashing 18 runs off just eight deliveries, including two towering sixes and a boundary. At that stage, the Royals looked well on course to push past the 200-run mark, putting Gujarat under serious pressure. However, young pacer Ashok Sharma showed impressive composure under pressure.

Instead of resorting to safer variations, he opted for a bold, full-length delivery—traditionally a slot ball for a power-hitter like Hetmyer. It was a calculated risk, turning the batter’s strength into a potential trap. Shimron Hetmyer took the bait and went for another big hit, aiming to clear the boundary. But he failed to get the desired connection, slicing the ball high towards the deep.

That’s where Mohammed Siraj stepped in and delivered a moment of magic. Positioned in the deep, Siraj judged the trajectory perfectly before completing a sharp, well-balanced catch under pressure. His athletic effort not only removed a key finisher but also shifted momentum back in Gujarat’s favour at a critical phase of the innings.

The dismissal came at a time when Gujarat Titans were already fighting to regain control after a strong start from Rajasthan, led by Yashasvi Jaiswal. Mohammed Siraj’s catch ensured that GT stayed in the contest, preventing Rajasthan from fully capitalising in the slog overs and keeping the chase within reach.
