The aftermath of the Asia Cup 2025 has taken an unexpected political turn, with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi facing global scrutiny — not for his team’s performance, but for allegedly denying India the Asia Cup trophy after their dominant win. Despite India thrashing Pakistan three times, including in the Asia Cup final, Naqvi’s actions have sparked controversy and a wave of political endorsement in Pakistan, turning what could have been a sporting embarrassment into a narrative of defiance.

A viral video circulating on social media features Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori praising Naqvi’s decision to withhold the trophy from India. Tessori even made shocking remarks, labeling Indian cricketers as “terrorists,” while applauding Naqvi for refusing to step aside during the post-match presentation.
“When he was standing on the ground and the Indian team was not taking the trophy, he remained patient. They wanted him to step down, but they didn’t know our chairman is also the Interior Minister,” Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori said.

He further added, “Unhone team ko baad mein dehshat gardon ki tarah handle kiya (He handled the team like terrorists). He took the trophy and left. Now, the whole of India is chasing it.” The comments, while drawing laughter from the gathering, have sparked outrage among Indian fans and cricket followers worldwide.

Interestingly, Naqvi appeared amused throughout the video, smiling as Tessori made these remarks. His dual role as PCB chief and Pakistan’s Interior Minister has further complicated the situation. During the post-match ceremony, Naqvi reportedly waited for the Indian players to collect their medals and the trophy, but when they refused to accept them from him, he left the ground with the trophy still in his possession.
In response, Suryakumar Yadav and his teammates humorously celebrated with an imaginary trophy, a gesture that quickly went viral on social media.

Weeks later, the standoff continues. Naqvi insists the trophy will only be handed to an Indian representative in a neutral venue like Dubai, while the BCCI has rejected his conditions. The Asia Cup’s trophy controversy has now spilled beyond cricket, symbolizing the growing tensions between the two nations even in the realm of sport.
