The 2025 Asia Cup ended in controversy despite India’s dominant campaign, as the Men in Blue were denied possession of the trophy after defeating arch-rivals Pakistan by five wickets in the final on September 28 in Dubai. India chased down a modest target of 147 in 19.4 overs to seal their unbeaten run in the tournament, winning all seven matches.

However, the post-match ceremony took a dramatic turn when the Indian players reportedly refused to accept the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman and a minister in the Pakistani government.

Following the refusal, Naqvi is said to have left the stadium with the trophy and has yet to return it to India. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has since sent an official email requesting the return of the trophy. In response, Naqvi reportedly suggested organising a separate ceremony in early November, insisting that at least one Indian player must attend to collect the trophy from him personally.

In a fresh twist, ANI reported that the Asia Cup trophy has been moved from the ACC headquarters in Dubai to a secure location in Abu Dhabi. According to sources, a BCCI official who visited the Dubai office last week was informed that the trophy had already been relocated.

Naqvi has reportedly maintained that the Indian team can collect the trophy from him directly at the ACC office, though no formal arrangements have yet been made.

Meanwhile, during the ACC meeting in late September, reports surfaced suggesting that Naqvi had apologized to the BCCI — a claim he later denied. With no official decision made, the Asia Cup trophy saga remains unresolved, casting an unexpected shadow over India’s emphatic title triumph.
