Bangladesh batsman Mominul Haque’s brilliant Test century in the ongoing home Test against Windies at Chittagong has widely helped the hosts to stay strong in the game. After scoring his fourth Test century in this year, the in-form Mominul denied to compare himself with the Indian skipper Virat Kohli.

Currently, Virat Kohli and Mominul Haque are on the top to score Test centuries in this year as both have hit four Test centuries in this calendar year. Kohli is currently the no.1 ranked Test batsman scoring 1,063 Test runs in this year with an average of 59.05.

Meanwhile, the 27-year-old left-handed batsman Mominul Haque has scored 644 Test runs in this year with an average of 46.00. His recent 120 runs knock in the ongoing first Test of the series against Windies helped Bangladesh to score a good first innings total of 324 runs before getting all-out.

On Thursday, after the end of the day one, when Mominul was asked his comparison with Kohli, he dismissed it and added that he wants to focus on upcoming opportunities.

Mominul said, “Talking of Tamim [Iqbal] bhai, there is no question of comparing me with him. He is on another level in world cricket. I don’t think it’s right to compare with him, and Virat Kohli is even higher. I don’t think about these things. The year is not over yet, there are Tests left, the second innings and the second Test. So instead of thinking about that, I think about how to improve and contribute to the team as much as I can.”

The left-handed batsman played a brilliant knock of 120 runs off 160 balls with the help of 10 fours and only six. However, he still regrets to get caught behind against the pacer Shannon Gabriel as he feels that he could play longer innings.

Mominul spoke about his innings, “Regrets are always there. In the previous Test I got out for 160, and if you don’t have regret or the hunger to perform better, you will stall – the player will have less chance of doing well. Whether you are out for 0 or 100, if you are out there is always regret.”
