Former England spinner Monty Panesar grabbed a lot of limelight with his brilliant bowling performance for England Legends in their Road Safety World Series match against India Legends on Tuesday in Raipur. Monty Panesar turned back the clock and bowled with immense accuracy by producing a match-winning performance for the Kevin Pietersen-led team. The 38-year-old was successful in getting the important wickets of Sachin Tendulkar, Mohammed Kaif, and Yuvraj Singh to take the match away from the host team.

Panesar came in to bowl the first over with the new ball and conceded just 7 runs from it. On the second ball of his 2nd over, he cleaned-up Kaif for just 1 run. Three deliveries later, Panesar deceived Tendulkar with a flighted delivery and the batting legend came down the track but the ball deviated away from his bat as the wicketkeeper executed an easy stumping.

Monty Panesar returned to bowl the 9th over and got success on the second delivery again. Yuvraj decided to dispatch the ball over long-on but only managed to mis-time the ball which took a massive edge as it ended in the safe hands of the backward point fielder. Panesar took 3 wickets for just 15 runs in his 4 overs and fans have taken note of his impressive figures.

Some of them have called him better than a current lot of England spinners including Jack Leach who bowled decently in the recently-concluded Test series. Others have opined that India batsmen are yet to figure out a plan to play against the spin wizard, who in 2012 took 17 wickets in 3 wickets as England won the series Test series 2-1.

Also, Sachin Tendulkar, Panesar’s maiden wicket in Test cricket, was dismissed by the spinner for the 6th time (4 times in Tests and once in ODIs) in his career.
