England’s Monty Panesar has had a topsy-turvy cricket career despite being one of their leading spinners in late 2000s’. The 37-year-old has scalped 167 wickets in 50 Test matches and featured in 26 ODIs for England. During his seven-year stint for England, the spinner has been in and out of the team for quite some time.
In a recent chat, Monty Panesar talked about batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar who happens to be his first test wicket. He also speaks on his relationship with the former Indian captain amid the lockdown.

Speaking about his relationship with the Cricketing Legend, Monty Panesar said, ” I don’t know how much of a good friend I’m with Sachin Tendulkar. it would be nice if I could give him a call and ask him, but I don’t really have his number. I think the great thing about Sachin is he always has time for people, doesn’t he? Sachin always makes time for people and always like to talk. He is someone I look up to that has been a huge part of my life.”
Recalling India’s tour of England in 2011, Monty shed light on the controversies that started to surface after the spinner Joined Sachin Tendulkar for a net practice session.
“Personally, I don’t know why I did the net session?. I think I enjoyed the fact I can train with Sachin away from let’s say cricket environment. I should have asked ECB, it backfired to me, to be honest, and they weren’t happy about it. It was actually a wrong move, probably should have asked for permission from the ECB.” he said.

Speaking about how he approached Sachin Tendulkar for the net session, Paneser reveals why he wanted to train with the Indian Legend.
“I messaged him because he was in London, saying Hey Paaji, is it right to come, is it right to come to bowl to you? I just wanted to train with him and wanted to witness how talented he’s. He’s just unbelievable! He’s something else, I don’t how hard he’s trained to become this great? He must have trained hours man,” he said.
