More than 150-year-old English cricket club bowled out for just 18

Beckenham CC is more than 150-year-old English cricket club who recently suffered a humiliating defeat in a cricket match. In a Shepherd Neame Kent Cricket League match, Beckenham was bowled out for just 18 runs (11.2 overs) against Bexley CC, who reached the target in just 3.3 overs without losing any wicket (22/0).

It was the Premier Division 1st XI game between Beckenham CC and Bexley CC at Manor Way (Bexley) on last Saturday (July 21) in 2018 Shepherd Neame Kent Cricket League, which is the 50-over tournament. After winning the toss, Beckenham decided to bat first but faced a tough luck.

The 29-year-old Scottish pacer Calum MacLeod dominated in the game where he grabbed six wickets and ended with the bowling figure of 6-2-5-6. On the other hand, the 34-year-old right-arm pacer and Bexley captain Jason Benn also had an impressive bowling figure of 5.2-3-12-4. Their lethal bowling destroyed the opposition batting line-up totally who were bundled out for just 18 runs.

Forget about reaching the double-digit marks, none of Beckenham batsmen scored more than 4 runs in that innings as the three batsmen scored 4 runs in that innings and they were – skipper and opener Alexander Senn (4), no.3 batsman William MacVicar (4) and no.5 Calum Lennox (4*). Among them, Senn and MacVicar hit the only two boundaries in the innings while Lennox faced 30 balls in that innings.

A total of five Beckenham batsmen scored the ducks and they were – opener Rob Clements, no.4 Alex Blake, no.7 Ross Piller, no.8 Jonathan Darke and the last batsman Alex Shanks.

Chasing down the target, the hosts didn’t lose any wickets and reached the target in just 3.3 overs as they won the game by 10 wickets. It took only 12 minutes to chase down the target and left Beckenham for a humiliated victory.

It is the lowest ever total for Beckenham CC in their 152-year history as the club has been established in 1866. While the Premier Division is the top division of this league system, Beckenham were the champions in the last season and that’s why it’s huge surprising and humiliated scenario for the club.
