Harbhajan Singh and MS Dhoni’s relationship has long been a subject of intrigue for cricket fans, especially after Harbhajan’s revelation last year that he hadn’t spoken to his former captain in a decade. In December 2024, the former off-spinner stated that his last conversation with Dhoni took place while playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL, suggesting a distant relationship between the two cricketing stalwarts.

But a recent viral video paints a different picture. The video that has been doing the rounds on social media depicts Dhoni and Harbhajan together at a party, exchanging a few words of conversation. In a surprise moment to their fans, Dhoni was even spotted pulling out a chair for Harbhajan.

This surprise move has left everyone wondering, given Harbhajan’s previous comments about not speaking to them. Is this an indication of improving relations, or just a momentary gesture of politeness? During their playing careers, the duo shared the field in 212 international matches across formats, with Harbhajan playing 133 matches under Dhoni’s captaincy.

They were integral to India’s successes in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup, playing key roles in the team’s triumphs. In the IPL, Harbhajan played for CSK with Dhoni during the 2018 and 2019 seasons and played a meaningful role, most notably in 2019 where he took 16 wickets in 11 games at an average of 19.50.

Harbhajan is not the sole former teammate to have commented on his estranged relationship with Dhoni. Another Indian cricket veteran, Yuvraj Singh, has also, in interviews, stated that he and Dhoni are not best friends, in spite of all their match-winning combinations for India. Meanwhile, Dhoni will be returning for yet another IPL season, held onto by CSK for Rs 4 crore. Fans will be interested to know if this reunion with Harbhajan will result in a renewal of old friendships or just remain a fleeting interaction between two former colleagues.
