Mahendra Singh Dhoni, one of India’s most celebrated cricket icons, is set to embark on a new journey—this time as a certified drone pilot. The 44-year-old former India captain from Ranchi, who redefined leadership and wicketkeeping between 2004 and 2019, has officially completed his DGCA-approved drone pilot training with Garuda Aerospace’s Remote Pilot Training Organisation (RPTO) in Chennai.

Dhoni’s certification marks yet another milestone in his illustrious career, showcasing his curiosity for innovation and technology beyond cricket. The comprehensive training program involved both theoretical ground classes and practical flying sessions using simulators and real drones, emphasising certified, safe, and skilled drone operations in India’s fast-growing tech ecosystem.
Agnishwar Jayaprakash, Founder and CEO of Garuda Aerospace, lauded Dhoni’s dedication, saying, “Having our brand ambassador and investor, MS Dhoni, personally undergo the training and get certified as a pilot is a monumental milestone for us. He picked it up quickly, remained deeply focused, and continues to inspire our mission to revolutionize India’s drone industry. Mahi Bhai’s hands-on involvement reinforces our vision of innovation and excellence.”

While his passion for aviation takes flight, Dhoni’s cricketing chapter still captures fans’ imagination. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) veteran, who remains the most capped player in IPL history, was retained for ₹4 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Despite taking over captaincy mid-season after Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury, CSK endured a tough campaign, finishing at the bottom of the table for the first time ever.
