In the last July, during the Lord’s ODI against England (14 July 2018), Dhoni completed his 10,000 ODI runs in 273 ODI innings. But while he also played three ODIs for Asia XI in 2007, where he scored 174 runs, including one century (139*), he has now completed the 10,000 ODI runs for his national team.

The Sydney ODI is Dhoni’s 330th ODI match and 279th ODI innings for his country where he completed his 10,000 ODI runs for his national team just when he opened his account.

Here are some important stats of this special achievement

  • Fifth batsman to score 10,000 ODI runs for the Indian cricket team. The other four Indian cricketers are Sachin Tendulkar (18,426 runs), Sourav Ganguly (11,221 runs), Rahul Dravid (10,768 runs) and Virat Kohli (10, 235 runs).
  • 13th batsman to score 10,000 ODI runs for any particular side.

After both their openers Alex Carey (24 runs) and Aaron Finch (6 runs) fell at early, Usman Khawaja (59 runs), Shaun Marsh (54 runs) and Peter Handscomb (73 runs) played 50+ knocks to secure a good total. Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell finished that innings very well as they remained unbeaten on 47 runs (43 balls) and 11 runs (5 balls) respectively.

At the beginning of their chasing, India lost three wickets at very quick times. While the opener Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed for a golden duck, the skipper Virat Kohli (3) and the no.4 batsman Ambati Rayudu (0) followed Dhawan soon. Since then, another opener Rohit Sharma has taken the charge to control that innings along with MS Dhoni who just completed his 10,000 ODI runs for India.
